Introducing Zest Metrics: clearer measurement for modern search visibility

Share

Lemon Pulse has always been opinionated about measurement. Not because dashboards are interesting, but because the wrong metrics create the wrong decisions.

Over the last few years, SEO tooling has gone in two directions at once: increasingly sophisticated datasets on one side, and increasingly noisy interfaces on the other. The result is familiar to anyone working in search at a professional level. You can pull more “insight” than ever, yet still struggle to answer the questions that matter when reporting performance, diagnosing change, or planning what to do next.

That gap is why we built Zest Metrics.

Why we built it

Zest Metrics didn’t start as a product idea. It started as an internal need.

When you work across a variety of sites, sectors, and SERP types, a pattern becomes obvious: most tools are excellent at collecting data, but less reliable at expressing what is actually happening in the results in a way that supports decision-making.

We wanted a platform that prioritises signal over volume, and clarity over configuration.

Not another “all-in-one”. Not another feature checklist. A system designed to make modern visibility measurable in a way that is clean, consistent, and easy to defend in front of stakeholders.

The measurement problem Zest Metrics focuses on

If you’re operating at a serious level in SEO, you already know rankings alone are not a sufficient proxy for performance. They can still be useful, but they rarely explain outcomes on their own.

What does explain outcomes is the make-up of the results page and how visibility is distributed between entities, features, and placements.

Zest Metrics is built around that reality. It’s designed to help you measure and monitor the visibility drivers that sit around traditional ranking data, and to make those drivers easy to interpret over time.

What Zest Metrics helps you do

Zest Metrics is purpose-built for SEO teams who need to answer questions like:

  • Where are we actually showing up, and how prominently
  • What has changed in the results environment (not just our position)
  • Which competitors are gaining meaningful visibility, and where
  • How do we evidence shifts that explain performance movements

The aim is simple: make modern SERP visibility measurable, so reporting and planning are grounded in what users are actually seeing.

AI Overviews and modern SERP features

One of the most significant changes to search results since mid-2024 has been the introduction and expansion of AI Overviews.

These results materially alter how users interact with the page, often consolidating answers and pushing traditional organic listings further down. In many cases, they introduce a new competitive layer that standard rank tracking does not account for.

Zest Metrics includes dedicated AI Overview tracking as part of its core feature set. This allows teams to:

  • Identify when AI Overviews are present for tracked queries
  • Monitor how visibility shifts as these features appear or change
  • Understand competitive representation within AI-driven results

This makes it easier to explain why performance changes occur even when traditional rankings appear stable.

LLM performance and prompt-level visibility

Alongside changes within Google’s results, large language models are increasingly influencing how users discover information and brands.

Zest Metrics offers LLM performance and prompt tracking as an optional add-on within the platform. This module is designed to help teams understand how brands surface within generative AI environments, and how that presence evolves over time.

The add-on includes:

  • Prompt-level tracking across supported LLMs
  • Monitoring of brand mentions and competitive presence
  • Sentiment analysis to understand how brands are being represented

This is not positioned as a replacement for SEO measurement, but as a complementary layer that reflects how discovery and brand exposure are expanding beyond traditional search interfaces.

Built alongside real client work

Zest Metrics has been developed in parallel with ongoing client delivery at Lemon Pulse. It means the product has been shaped by real reporting pressures, real stakeholder expectations, and real-world SEO workflows.

The platform exists because we needed a clearer way to measure modern visibility, and because existing tools didn’t address that need cleanly enough.

What’s next

We’ve stepped into a new era of SEO where, amongst all innovations, clarity needs to take centre stage. We are happy to embark on this journey together, focusing on continuous evolution and improvement as we adapt to the industry’s evolving needs.
